We are thrilled that our Investigate Europe team, including Nico Schmidt, Ella Joyner, Chris Matthews and myself have been nominated for the 2026 Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism for our Investigate Europe exposé: “How Big Tech wrote secrecy into EU law to hide data centres’ environmental toll”. Ten investigations were shortlisted from a record 344 entries. The award ceremony took place in Strasbourg on October 21, 2026.

Our investigation “How Facebook and Instagram Became Marketplaces for Child Sex Trafficking” (Guardian, 2023) has been cited as one of the critical evidential news sources from the New Mexico Attorney General into the landmark trial verdict in March of the State of New Mexico vs. Meta Platforms Inc.

Our Guardian documentary, “Give Me Shelter” (Tom Silverstone (Dir), Laurence Topham (Ed/EP) and Mei-Ling McNamara (Journalist/Producer) was nominated for an Emmy award this year in the Outstanding Short Documentary category. The ceremony for the Emmys took place at the Jazz in Lincoln Center on 28 May, 2026. Viewers can watch it streamed live on TheEmmys.TV

“Give Me Shelter “has made the Grierson British Documentary Longlist for 2026! An honour to be nominated for our work on the trafficking of children of colour over social media, and the importance of support to help end exploitation.

My recent Investigate Europe and Guardian investigation “Electrocutions, disease and no pay: how workers risk exploitation in Europe’s datacentres” has been featured in over 11 European countries as well as reprinted in large publications outside of Europe. It has also been covered across the Swedish press extensively, published across Brazil and translated into Hebrew and Portuguese.

Thrilled to join a great two and half hour discussion of today’s news events alongside Adeolu Adekola as a co-panellist on the BBC World Service Radio Programme Weekend hosted by the Julian Worricker on June 27, 2026. The discussion ran the gamut from climate change impacting cocoa plants in West Africa, the environmental concerns on the rise of AI & datacentres in Australia (and globally) and the adaptation to occurrences such as the heatwave in Europe.
